取得进展

那么,聚集在脑干中的血清素神经元并非各自为政、互不往来的独立个体,而是实际上向大脑其余部分发送轴突,这究竟意味着什么?

“在我看来,这篇论文的主要结论是,哺乳动物的血清素系统在解剖结构和功能上远比我们先前想象的要复杂。这一知识有望帮助开发针对重度抑郁症等情绪障碍的靶向疗法,”该研究的第一作者、Béïque博士医学院实验室前成员Michael Lynn博士表示。

 

Lynn博士于2023年10月在渥太华大学获得神经科学博士学位。目前,他在牛津大学生理学、解剖学与遗传学系担任博士后研究员。

他指出,团队的发现具有重要意义,因为研究表明存在具有独特活动模式的不同血清素神经元群,每一群都控制着大脑特定区域的血清素释放。这对神经科学中的“胜者通吃”原则具有启示意义——该概念应用于神经网络的计算模型中,指神经元本质上通过竞争来实现激活。
